Abruptum — Evil Genius [CD]
A comprehensive gathering of all the early Abruptum recordings including the first two demos (S/T and “The Satanist Tunes”") + the “Evil” 7″ and the track from the out of print: “Tribute To Euronymous” CD .
Abruptum is a highly regarded, cult and influential act whos’ influence among modern acts: (Khanate, Striborg, Khylst) is unmeasurable!
Abruptum is “The pure audial essence of evil!”
Antaeus — Blood Libels [Digi CD]
The brilliance of these blood thirsty Francs is insatiable as is the power that this CD yields. After two full lengths(Cut Your Flesh And Worship Satan and De Principii Evangelikum) and numerous split releases and an EP the band finds old wounds to re-open: Blood Libels.
The digipack release has some deluxe spot gloss printing and a booklet which includes some fancy “onion-skin” paper.
Ascend — Ample Fire Within [Digi-CD]
ASCEND is a new collaborative musical project between Gentry Densley (Iceburn, Eagle Twin) and Greg Anderson (sunn 0))), Goatsnake, Engine Kid).
ASCEND re-visits some of the tones, and moods of their past works as well as traveling into uncharted territory all done with the utmost focus on heaviness and power.
Special guest appearances on this album by Andy Patterson (drums), Steve Moore (aka Stebmo, also in Earth and often times : sunn 0))) ) trombone, organ and wurlitzer, Bubba Dupree (Void) guitar AND none other than Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) put down some incredible lead work! The packaging and layout was created by Stephen O’Malley with a homage to our favorite jazz records of the past from labels like ECM and Impulse! (Multi-panel digi-pac w/ booklet inserted.)
Black Boned Angel — The Endless Coming into Life [CD]
Consisting of a sole one-hour track, The Endless Coming Into Life sits comfortably alongside the darker end of Kneale’s ever-growing catalog of work dedicated to finding the light (or dark) source of the universal drone.
This work is perhaps Kneale’s most obvious combination of the extreme minimalism of his ambient tendencies and the extreme maximalism of his forays into the center of the subterranean metal guitar riff. The album first lulls one into a meditative state of relative calm before plummeting into the chasm created by the vibrations of a single, snarling riff so heavy it could rip a hole in the heavens.
Boris — Akuma No Uta [Digi CD]
Playfully referencing the cover of Nick Drake’s BRYTER LAYTER album, this Boris outing has absolutely nothing to do with the British folk singer’s gentle, melancholy vibe. Instead it presents the Japanese rock act at full throttle, churning out raucous metal worthy of prime-era Motorhead (see “Ibitsu” and the fittingly titled “Furi”).
AKUMA NO UTA isn’t exclusively ferocious, however–it also makes room for moodier atmospheric moments, as on the sprawling “Naki Kyoku.” Though Boris does dabble in more experimental recordings (see its work with Merbow), AKUMA NO UTA falls largely into the rock side of the group’s aesthetic, and stands as one of its finest offerings.
Boris — Amplifier Worship [CD]
Like Sleep, Boris was ultimately inspired by the Melvins (in particular the Lysol album) and Earth. Besides pure heavy riff-droning bombast, Boris adds a unique experimentalist ambience to all they touch. This perfectly explains their involvement and collaboration with such cult-experimental artists such as MERZBOW and Keiji Haino.
Every release from this group is different. Each is colossal in it’s own right, but Absolutego is the group’s finest achievement. Words do not describe this mammoth accomplishment.
Earth moving drones swallow the listener whole, then regurgitate you as a mass of sloth like jelly.
Boris — Smile [CD]
The wait is over! With this brand new studio album from Boris’ the group plays deeply intense blistering psychedelia with mammoth hooks and truly innovative song-writing. Smile is a reinvention of dark heaviness. Smile presents a new sound from Boris which represents everything that is RIGHT NOW.
Boris hope “this is going to be a new experience for everyone beyond music.
‘Features collaborations with special guests: Stephen O’Malley (sunn0))), KTL), and Michio Kurihara (Ghost, White Heaven, The Stars). The Southern Lord version is drastically different than the version of Smile released by Daymare records in Japan. The main difference between the Southern Lord version and the Daymare version is the mix of the actual songs themselves. Where the songs on the Japanese version have a more electronic or noisy-psychedelic vibe, the North American/European version here features a heavier more straight-forward rock aesthetic. Its truly remarkable how the band consciously have set out (and achieved) to make two completely different sounding versions of the same album. It is a testament to their continual, endless well-spring of creativity!
Craft — Fuck the Universe [CD]
This is the final unholy razor sharp nail in the coffin for Sweden’s ultra-grim black metal disciples Craft. Unrelenting violence, hatred, and contempt for the outside world. An absolutely lethal fusion of unsuspectingly catchy, well played riffs and instinctual bleak songwriting provide the foundation for sinister enigmatic vokills to infest the final diseased resulting song. Bask in the light of the funeral moon and be possessed, obsessed and consumed by its massive carnal spell.
Current 93 — Aleph at Hallucinatory Mountain [DIGI CD]
Words like armageddon and visionary get tossed about around David Tibet (for good reason) but with this latest album, these words seem too small and meek. As hinted on Black Ships Ate the Sky and the split EP with Om, David Tibet has embraced a blistering rock aesthetic for his apocalyptic visions.
Sounding as psychedelic as Of Ruine Or Some Blazing Starre or The Inmost Light trilogy, there is also a heaviness here not heard since the noisy tape loops of Current 93′s embryonic period. Tibet sings of Aleph (an Adam-like character), murder, and destruction as a huge cast of musicians and vocalists create a backdrop worthy of his vision.
Current 93 — Baalstorm, Sing Omega [DIGI CD]
Baalstorm, Sing Omega is the most raw, powerful and hallucinatory album yet by multi-million selling Baptist Satanist Toy Boys and Toy Girls Current 93.
The current formation of the group includes Eliot Bates, James Blackshaw, John Contreras, Baby Dee, Andrew Liles, Melon Liles, Alex Neilson, Bea Taylor, Isabel Taylor and David Tibet.
The CD comes in a full-color digi-pack with a booklet including all the lyrics and photos of the banned band; the cover art is a new Tibet painting entitled “She Is Naked as the Water, at the Door.”
Current 93 — Black Ships Ate the Sky [DELUXE CD]
BLACK SHIPS ATE THE SKY is the new 76-minute masterwork from Current 93, this time with the line-Up of David Tibet, Michael Cashmore, Ben Chasney (Six Organs of Admittance), Steven Stapleton, John Contreras with William Basinski, William Breeze and Amy Phillips.
BLACK SHIPS ATE THE SKY is the long-awaited studio follow-up to 2000′s Sleep Has His House. It has taken David Tibet four years to complete, and features some very special guests including Marc Almond, Antony, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Shirley Collins, Baby Dee and others. BLACK SHIPS ATE THE SKY is Current 93′s most powerful and challenging recording, and looks set to be the most important Current 93 release to date.
Comes accompanied with a 56 page booklet.
Current 93 — Dog’s Blood Rising [CD]
Originally released in 1985 in an edition of 1000 copies, Dogs Blood Rising was the second full-length release from Current 93. This highly limited edition reissue has been “significantly restored and remastered”, presented in a fashion that reproduces the original edition as closely as possible.
Capturing Current 93 at their most experimental, Dogs Blood Rising carries an immense power, with David Tibet’s diabolic utterances in truly chilling form, dissolved into the gothic/industrial soundscape by a Stephen Stapleton and co.
This material is far-removed from the modern-day Current 93 apocalyptic folk aesthetic, taking on a far more extreme and viscerally challenging form, but nonetheless the lyrical themes and unique idiom the band currently employ are still very much traceable to this point in their career.
Current 93 — Hypnagogue I & II [DIGI CD]
Hypnagogue was originally released as a limited EP in 2003 and has been out of print since. This new release, which comes in a full colour digipack with booklet, includes the original and adds a newly recorded version of the piece.
The original featured David Tibet reading from the book of the same name with musical accompaniment by Maja Elliott on piano. The new version features a sublime orchestral arrangement by Michael Masley.
Current 93 — Nature Unveiled [CD]
Originally issued in 1984, in an edition of 1000 copies, Nature Unveiled was Current 93′s first ever full length release. Here, the audio has been significantly restored and remastered and is presented as an exact reproduction of the original as possible.
In England’s Hidden Reverse David Tibet compared the sounds on Nature Unveiled to the appearance of shadows cast by a candle’s flame. The exaggerated dance of figures projected by the fire is an excellent metaphor for the reverberated moans and chants that jump and teleport throughout ‘Ach Golgotha (Maldoror is Dead).’ Steven Stapleton’s ability in the studio helped to translate the entire record into an exaggerated and frightening play of monumental blocks of sound. Annie Anxiety’s truly awesome performance in ‘The Mystical Body of Christ in Chorazaim (The Great in the Small)’ is one of her most memorable and it heightens the play of human cries, treated pianos, monastic chants, unidentifiable stereo oddities, and defiant vocals that populate both songs.
The details are made more powerful thanks to Denis Blackham’s remastering job and remarkably this album sounds more clear and robust than many modern recordings made by artists with similar palettes. It has been 24 years since Nature Unveiled was released, but it sounds more powerful now than it ever did.
Current 93 — Of Ruine or some Blazing Starre [DIGI CD]
Originally released in 1994, Of Ruine… follows the classic Thunder Perfect Mind album and marks another leap forward in the sound of Current 93.
The gorgeously delicate guitar of Michael Cashmore augmented by drones, bells and sound manipulations make this one of Current’s most hypnotic albums musically with the vocals and text of David Tibet adding a quietly controlled power and drama which is virtually unsurpassed in the canon of the band.
This reissue has been remastered and features newly designed artwork in a full color digipack with a 20-page booklet.
Current 93 — The Inmost Light (trilogy) [3x DIGI CD]
The long awaited re-issue of David Tibet, Steven Stapleton and Michael Cashmore’s finest work; the Inmost Light trilogy.
Made up of three albums; ‘Where The Long Shadows Fall’, ‘All the Pretty Little Horses’, and ‘The Starres Are Marching Sadly Home’ this is an epic set in every sense of the word, exploring the outer realms of the neo-folk sound and mastering it effortlessly.
Originally issued in 1995/1996, this set, which originally announced itself as being ‘Hallucinatory Patripassianist Song’ reissues in their entirety the mini-albums Where The Long Shadows Fall and The Stars Are Marching Sadly Home, as well as the full length All The Pretty Little Horses. Current 93 became David Tibet, Steven Stapleton, Michael Cashmore and Joolie Wood for this album. Guest vocalists included Nick Cave, Jhonn Balance of Coil, Andria Degens of Pantaleimon and Shirley Collins.
This series was inspired by such visionaries as painter Louis Wain and author Thomas Ligotti (to whom a track was dedicated), nursery singsongs and Christian heresies (most notably Patripassianism, otherwise known as Trinitarian heresy).
In Current 93′s hands, the traditional lullaby that lends the album its title, sparks an explosive torrent of bittersweet childhood memories and apocalyptic prophecies. The musical setting for Tibet’s narrative is exquisite, kaleidoscopic music composed with twelve-string guitar, piano, string arrangements, flutes, bells, massed drones, children’s voices and ecstatic recitations.
A powerful and extremely moving listening experience.
The three discs have been newly remastered and are housed in a deluxe eight-panel digipack with a 24-page full-color booklet of photos of the group as children, a complete set of lyrics and liner notes.
Current 93 — Thunder Perfect Mind [2x DIGI CD]
This double CD digifile reissue of Thunder Perfect Mind is similar to the 2003 World Serpent reissue, except that the cover has been somewhat changed and a new photo of Kalki has been added to the booklet.
This contains all the music from the original album, relevant studio out-takes and live material taken from EMBLEMS, CALLING FOR VANISHED FACES and AS THE WORLD DISAPPEARS, as well as one previously unreleased (and very brief) studio piece from the sessions. The album has been remastered and all lyrics are included.
Current 93 / OM — Inerrant Rays of Infallible Sun EP [DIGI CD]
A massive split between transcendent heavyweights Current 93 and Om (Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius of Sleep).

Deathspell Omega — Chaining the Katechon EP [DIGI CD]
Deathspell Omega return with a 22-minute EP featuring one long song, Chaining the Katechon. Once again, this French Black Metal band does not disapoint.
DEATHSPELL OMEGA and S.V.E.S.T. offer two glances right into the primeval fracture, the suppurating wound at the heart of everything, the fissure undermining up to the least attempt at harmony. Summa Divisio, the first of all divisions, the mother of all scissions and the annunciation of woe and affliction to come.
The work of both bands can be understood as a variation on a same theme, independent yet complementary.
Deathspell Omega — Fas — Ite, Maledicti, In Ignem Aeternum [DIGI CD]
Deathspell Omega is one of the rare bands, especially in the black metal genre that continually finds ways to top each of their previous releases. While there are ashes that remain of their past works, this is extremely chaotic and relies even heavier on dissonance and mind-bending riffs that aren’t so technical as they are cryptic and demented. There are several start and stop moments and interludes of pianos and haunting ambient sounds here as well, performed in a manner that only Deathspell Omega could pull off in such commendable fashion.
The mighty Deathspell Omega returns. Their first release of new material since 2005′s ‘Kenose’, ‘Fas – Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternvm’ is conceptually the direct successor of “Si Monvmentvm Reqvires, Circvmspice”. It is centred on the notion of divine will, on the seed of perdition that is ontologically a part of Man and therefore of immanent judgement. Musically, it is a very dense album of a technical nature, where violence and dissonance blend into a merciless result, of such nature that it literally kills hope.
‘Fas…’ offers yet another step forward in the evolution of the world’s most foreboding and impressive progressive black metal band.
Musically, it is a league on its own. Black Metal, certainly, but it goes far beyond.
Formats: 6 panel digipak with 20 page booklet
Deathspell Omega — Kenose [DIGI CD]
Luxurious 40 page digipak edition. One of the best black metal releases of 2005 and a must own for anyone into extreme metal.
Pure and true!
Deathspell Omega — Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice [CD]
One of the most heralded acts in the deep dark Black Metal underground, this album marks a shift in direction for Deathspell Omega. Frankly, it leaves their old stuff in the dust. This is a more ambitious, progressive D.O. than before, with thought-provoking material, musically and lyrically, raising the Black Metal standard to new levels.

Earth — Hex [CD]
The fifth official studio album and triumphant return of Earth! With each album released Earth progresses and diversifies their sound, pushing all boundaries of preconception.
With Hex, Earth has created an intensely powerful album that defies the normal restrictions of a particular genre. The monolithic darkness of previous releases remains apparent yet is now channeled into a different direction. This new direction is bold, determined and as essential as anything they have ever done in the past.
Beautifully packaged with a 20 page booklet painstakingly designed by Stephen O’ Malley.
Earth — Hibernaculum [CD + DVD]
The fifth official studio album and triumphant return of Earth! With each album released Earth progresses and diversifies their sound, pushing all boundaries of preconception.

Earth — The Bee’s Made Honey in the Lion’s Skull [CD]
Earth’s latest incarnation has arrived. The band returns once again to it’s continuing evolution. Where “Hex” reveled in dark satanic twang and austere american beauty, “The Bees Made Honey In The Lion’s Skull” finds Dylan Carlson and the band growing into a harder, more rock, american Gospel and impovisitory direction framed by truly psychedelic production and blazing guitar sounds.
Earth is also very honored to be joined on this record for three songs by legendary and virtuoso guitarist Bill Frisell. Mr. Frisell adds a brilliant texture and counterpoint to the scintillating and inspired riffs of Dylan carlson and the band. Adrienne Davies joins again on drums lending a classic and steady feel to the proceedings. Steve Moore also returns adding heavy hammond organ and his intense jazz inspired piano playing. Live Bassist Don McGreevy also makes his full length Earth debut on this record. The cd comes nicely packaged in a slip-case/o-card and features artwork by Arik Roper.
Fire In The Head — Confessions Of A Narcissist [CD]
“Confessions Of A Narcissist” marks the final full-length release by Fire In The Head ending six years of sonic warfare with an assault of manic, self-indulgent industrial electronics.
Drawing as much influence from early punk / hardcore as from industrial / power electronics, F/I/T/H was conceived as a cathartic outlet to explore and ratify the delusions and social perversions resultant of psychosis and the darker side of man’s conflicted dual nature, to fan the flames which engulf the borders between obsession, compulsion, lust and need.
The tracks on this release were recorded in 2007-2008 and are the last of the “short, sharp, shock” vocal tracks which Michael abandoned in favour of “epic” length industrial / ambient compositions.
Features guest appearances from Nick Blinko (Rudimentary Peni) and J. Randall (Agoraphobic Nosebleed), with exclusive artwork from Blinko.

Forgotten Woods — Race of Cain [DIGI CD]
Norways importance to black metal is no secret. But the legend of the countrys’ Forgotten Woods is lesser known. During the early and mid 1990s Forgotten Woods released three obscure, cult full length albums on the No Colours label. Among those who managed to hear them, the band gained a legendary reputation for bringing a different, avant-garde style to a black metal genre that was already stagnating.
Presently in 2007 Forgotten Woods has returned with their first new album in more than 10 years. Maintaining their signature strangeness, at times the band is much more raw and aggressive, and at others more psychedelic and tinged with post-punk angularity. Yet at no point during Race Of Cain is there a time when the music can’t simply be called black metal.
A defining moment for avant black metal in 2007, Race Of Cain is true to Forgotten Woods roots and maintains a level of originality lacking in todays aging underground scene.
Packaged in a 6 panel digipak.
Geisha — Mondo Dell’Orrore [CD]
UK static technicians GEISHA devour/rebirth the concept of “noise rock” into something frighteningly beautiful and brutally heavy, delivering crushing blasts of impossibly catchy hyper-distorted rock baked in massive frequency overload.
Goatvargr — Black Snow Epoch [CD]
The second unholy union of Lord Nordvargr (MZ.412, Folkstorm, Toroidh etc) and Goat (USA).
Time, pilgrimages and bloodlines have been bourn since the first testament of Goatvargr was witnessed in this era of false knowledge. The first covenant of Goatvargr was baleful, lycanthropic and lethiferous. A rejection of the techgnostic kingdom and circuitry idols which seduce our era. The downfall of light has brought a world of coldness. This Black Snow Epoch is a time to honour our forbearers such as MZ.412 and the elements of flesh, wood and alchemical steel. Industrial loops and analogue keyboards merge with sheet metal and chains to create a solemn winter hymn where the cold steel stings your flesh. The wolf instinctively hunts through the frost, and the goat is blamed for human transgressions, yet during the Black Snow Epoch, the true hunters will pursue.
Presented in a jewelcase with foldout poster cover.

Humanfly — II [DIGI CD]
Between post-metal, psychedelic post-rock and whatever ever other post-genre label gets writers juiced comes Leeds based riff merchants Humanfly.
Formed in the early part of the decade and including people from well known Brits Canvas, Humanfly offer six vast, epic, metallic journeys through huge NeurIsis style heaviness and Pink Floyd via Mogwai atmospherics. However, where those bands have lately abandoned the crushingly heavy riffs that made them so appealing, for Humanfly it remains the focus. Tunes like ‘Echoes Of The Roman Empire’ and ‘Tjanargata / A Passage To Reykjavik’ are given ample space to breathe and build before inevitably crashing into a mountain of mammoth, celestial volume. With the shortest track more than 8 minutes and the longest over 13, each song is a two or three part saga within itself. Vocals are used sparingly focusing primarily on building thematically through the music.
Not yet well-known outside their native UK, the release of II by 20 Buck Spin will introduce Humanfly to a larger audience and push the band to the forefront of the post-post-rockmetal genre.
This CD version of II also includes two bonus tracks from their upcoming split LP with the UKs Queen Of Swords, for over an hour of music.
Inward Escape — Madness: The Fifth Season [CD]
The follow-up full-length recording to 2004’s acclaimed double-album ‘SACRED NOTHING’ presenting again an astounding panorama of brilliantly intricate and focused compositions.
Blurring between avant-garde post-rock/metal, neo-classicism and ambient sound structures, ‘MADNESS…’ is forged amongst the ideas and techniques of self-ascension, spirituality and cyclical life formations to evoke a densely rich, personal and intimate atmosphere.
The arrangement of all music adhering to esoteric mathematical formulae, for the intention of evoking an hallucinogenic response from the listener and allowing the interplay of the albums’ 3 collective ‘movements’ to ultimately represent the final, irreversible culmination of madness – The Fifth Season.
Inward Escape — Sacred Nothing [2x CD]
Presented in two volumes over the course of as many disks, the first comprising of Atremores’ unique direction and approach of what could possibly be labelled under the ambiguous title of ‘Avant-guarde Black Metal’, with great emphasis upon the former half of this title. These works further substantiated by the prose and lamentations of its author, and in some respects in stark contrast to its second volume, distinguished by its subtle, atmospheric compositions based this time more upon the absence on human voice and delving its listeners into the disturbed waters of ones own consciousness.
Iron Fist Of The Sun — Behavioural Decline [CD]
Personal obsessions skewed by drug use, codes of behaviour observed by a misanthropic mind. Bitter and cold. Nihilistic and scornful. Elitist and Pure. Behavioural Decline documents the rise of treachery and the fall of honour. Power electronics that sonically takes inspiration from electro-acoustics and ideology akin to black metal / black noise. ‘Concert For Evening Battle’ was recorded live at Radio Black Forest’s festival of electro-acoustic music 22/8/2009, Birmingham, England. A deeply personal Recording.

2. First Movement Of A Shallow Man [mp3]
3. Smile Like Sword [mp3]

5. The Power Of New Septembers

Katharsis — Kruzifixxion [CD]
Third full-length from this hellish noise-making cult from Germany. Their masterpiece, without any doubt. Excellent packaging.
Katharsis — WorldWithoutEnd [CD]
Third full-length from this hellish noise-making cult from Germany. Their masterpiece, without any doubt. Excellent packaging.
Katharsus — Fourth Reich [CD]
Black Metal gods Katharsis return in full rotten splendour with a 45 minutes long recording. While the song-writing retains the main ill characteristics of previous full-length WORLDWITHOUTEND, the extensive song structures operate as hypnotizing and lethal labyrinths, the murderous and brutal riffing is enhanced by a frontal opposition with a rare and genuine mastery of sheer black magic atmospheres.
Khanate — Khanate [CD]
Huge walls of buzzing and roaring guitars are laid out like warm, wet mud, burying you and suffocating you with sound. Rib cage-rattling low end hum, stretched out into entire songs, pummelling slow motion riffs are broken into jagged song fragments by ear shredding bursts of solid sate squeal, while inhuman black metal-ish squeals and spewing misanthropic negativity pepper the plodding, nightmarish soundscapes. Occasionally the whole thing collapses into a black hole of almost serene, rumbling and earthshaking drones, only to stumble back to life as a pounding and crushing behemoth.
This is the new era of doom, along with Esoteric, Corrupted, Boris, etc… where the sound is more important than the songs, and the sound hurts.
Lately Blu Blu — She was Beautiful even though she was Dead [CD]
Named after a line taken from Franco’s film “Venus In Furs (1969),” the album sounds like a whirlpool of psychedelic-gothic-horror blown into sweet exhaustion, and juvenile enchantment; vocally incorporating a haunting sound of early 60′s girl groups, its lo-fi ambiance creates a virtue of flaws and unselfconscious looseness.
Lately Blu Blu’s heart breaking-tortured vocals and ear tingling harmonies award alienation, loneliness, abandonment, escapades and death.
Nadja / Black Boned Angel[DIGI CD]
The two 20+ minutes tracks contained on this self-titled collaboration have a less accessible vibe then the Jesu-like track on last year’s “Christ Send Light” EP. There are no vocals to be heard. They are comprised in equal parts of Nadja’s fuzzed-out, lurching and hazy dream-doom, and BBA’s razor-sharp metallic riff-shards. Extended passages of riff-static noise bleeds one track into the next while deep space eerieness looms ever present in the shadows. Finally the whole thing collapses under the weight of its own self-created black hole. This is the end.
Objekt4 — Shades of Night [CD]
The 6th full length composition from Swedish based artist, Anders Peterson has yet again delivered another unique approach to “musical ambiance” of which OBJEKT4 has swiftly become known for. An expanse of cinematic sound design wed with hybrid sound recordings, re-defining the approach to audial ambiance.
Om — Pilgrimage [CD]
The 3rd sacred voyage of drone mantra purity from Om! Helmed by the master rhythm section of Chris Hakius (drums) and Al Cisneros (bass) (both formerly of Sleep) Pilgrimage contains four brand new songs featuring the gropus unique use of riff, cadence and chant. Lyrical themes address the processes of mind, psychic reality, astral and causal planes of being, and the nature of the soul.
Pilgrimage was recorded and engineered by Steve Albini at his Electrial Audio studios in Chicago and produced by the band. Mastering was handled by Bob Weston (also of Shellac). Of particular note is how much the song-writing has developed and in turn makes the dynamics of the songs much more intensely powerful. The present journey finds the band expanding their vision into new territories.

Pussygutt — She Hid Behind Her Veil [DIGI CD]
Pussygutt’s new album, She Hid Behind Her Veil…, is comprised of a single track over 45 minutes in length. The sound occupies a dense space where the heavy, metallic drone sound of Black Boned Angel intersects with the minimalist string arrangements of Phillip Glass and the more ambient doom tendencies of Japan’s Corrupted. With its use of violin textures, the album sounds as much like a classical movement as an art-doom LP.
Draped in a cloak of gothic black doom ambiance and eerie, unsettling moods, She Hid Behind Her Veil… is an apparition of ghostly vision from one of America’s more isolated environments.
Samothrace — Life’s Trade [CD]
Samothrace plays ultra heavy doom with harsh alcohol-soaked vocals. And yet a somber melodic sense also permeates the 4 long tracks on Life’s Trade. Not in the overused, weepy Euro-doom tradition, but distinctly Midwestern, soulful and blues inflected. The songs shimmer with desperation, hopelessness and pain. “Awkward Hearts” is both world weary for the plight of the oppressed and also intensely personal. The melodic interplay of guitarist Bryan Spinks and Renata Castagna is distinct in doom played this heavy and each song is meticulously crafted for maximum emotional impact.
